History of Wing Chun Kung Fu development in Vietnam

In 1877 in Kuan Don, China, a man destined to become the first patriarch of Vietnamese Wing Chun Kung Fu was born. His name was Nguen Te Kong. Young man started his way by becoming an apprentice of Liong Tan along with the teachers' sons: Liong Suan and Liong Bik, and other apprentices. During many years of hard training Nguen Te Kong reached the highest level of expertise in martial arts, but despite that he continued practicing every single day. Liong Tan loved him as his own son and when time came for Nguen to leave, he allowed him to teach other people.

Nguen started working in the Southern part of China, where he soon found his first apprentices. Among them there was Ip Man, who trained with Master Chan Hoa Tuan and Master Liong Bik in the past. We have to mention Master Ip Man, because in few years after meeting Nguen Te Kong he became the Grandmaster of Wing Chun Kung Fu in Hong Kong and later became teacher of the world famous martial artist - Bruce Lee.

In 1936 Te Kong left his homeland and went to Haifon (Vietnam) by sea. In the same year he moved to the capital of Vietnam, Hanoi. There he accepted new apprentices who were native Vietnamese.

In 1955 he moved to Saigon, settled in the district of the "Big Market" and continued to teach his Vietnamese and Chinese apprentices the art of Wing Chun Kung Fu. They loved and admired their teacher and always helped him in hard times. Master Te Kong considered Vietnam his second homeland and tried hard to pass his knowledge of Wing Chun Kung Fu to his new apprentices.
He died in 1960, at the age of 84, leaving a great heritage of Wing Chun Kung Fu to Vietnam. His followers developed and spread this style from generation to generation. Master Nguen Te Kong is considered a founder of Vietnamese Wing Chung Kung Fu.
